e-Safety

At Darrington School, we understand that the internet is a vast source of information and ideas that can have huge benefits when used in the right way. That’s’ why we encourage our pupils to use the internet for research, both in class and at home. However, it’s important that we do our utmost to ensure our pupils are protected from content that we don’t want them exposed to. But do you feel capable of giving your children that same level of protection? Please spend some time reading the parental guides below to ensure that you protect your child whilst they are using the internet.

On this page, we provide you with links to organisations and help groups covering Internet Safety, but if you want to know more about what the school does to protect its children on the internet, please let us know through the Contact Us page.

Safe

Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information when you’re chatting or posting online. Personal information includes your email address, phone number and password.

Meet

Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents’ or carers’ permission and even then only when they can be present. Remember online friends are still strangers even if you have been talking to them for a long time.

Accepting

Accepting emails, messages, or opening files, images or texts from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems — they may contain viruses or nasty messages!

Reliable

Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the internet may not be true. Always check information.

Tell

Tell a parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone, or something, makes you feel uncomforatble
