School Standards and Performance

Darrington CE Primary School is celebrating a year of good results in 2026:

StarWe are very proud of all our pupils’ achievements.

Reception

Assessment is ongoing through teacher observation of children’s learning and development as they take part in everyday activities and planned observations. On leaving Reception, a child is considered to have a ‘good level of development’ if they have achieved at least the expected level in the Early Learning Goals in all aspects of Personal Social Emotional, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy and Mathematics.

2024: 66% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’. (National 67%)

2025: 81% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’.

2026: 66% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’.

Year 1

The National Phonics Screening Check was introduced in 2012. It is a short statutory assessment to ensure children are making sufficient progress in the phonic skills to read words and are on track to become fluent readers. The pass mark for 2026 was 31 out of 40.

2024: 93% of children passed the phonics screening check. (National 79%)

2025: 87% of children passed the phonics screening check. (National 79%)

2026: 93% of children passed the phonics screening check. Our average score was 38.5.

Year 4

The Multiplication Tables Check for Year 4 children assesses the fluency of multiplication facts up to 12 x 12. The test is done online and children have 6 seconds to answer each question. There is no pass mark but we report the number of children who scored 25/25 and the average point score (APS)

2025: The percentage of children who scored 25 = 38%  APS = 21.5

2026: The percentage of children who scored 25 = 33%  APS = 23

Year 6

Children in Year 6 take their tests on set dates in May. Results are then submitted to the local authority and to parents by the summer term. The tests the children undertake are Reading, Spelling Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) and mathematics. The children’s writing judgements are based upon teacher assessment of work produced in class.
