Yorkshire Sculpture Park
On Tuesday 30th January, Team Meerkat visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park to support their 'Raging Rivers' topic and other areas of the curriculum.
We discussed the purpose of the dam and estimated the flow rate of the River Dearne with a stick experiment. The children worked out that at the cross over bridge, the water took 14 seconds to travel approximately 2.5metres - taking around 5 and a half seconds to travel 1 metre and giving us a flow rate of roughly 0.2metres per second.
The children also had the opportunity to sketch the lakes and river and also searched the grounds for inspiring sculptures. Some of the favourites were: the hares, the digital walkers and the octopus. We also had great fun trying to find our names on the walkway!
Contributing to our physical education, we walked almost 4 miles over the day! Each group had a compass to help navigate around the park and identify which direction they were walking in.
