Christian Distinctiveness
As a school, we believe that Christian Values help to shape and support our children to fulfil their full potential and empower them to make informed choices, flourish socially and prepare them for becoming a confident, respectful and fulfilled members of society. We believe that our Christian Values highlight how Christ is our role model and that no matter what we go through, we will always have peace, respect and friendship.
Darrington CE Primary School is a Church of England school within the Diocese of Leeds. We have strong links with our Parish Church, St Luke and All Saints, and worship here at different times of the year.
Our Church community supports our school in a number of ways through representatives holding the roles of Foundation Governors on our Governing Body. Our Worship Wonderers engage in the daily act of Collective Worship and are proud of their roles.
We also work in partnership with the Diocese of Leeds and within an informal partnership of Wakefield Church Schools, "All Saint's Partnership," which enables us to improve and grow as Church Schools.
Our Values
As a school, we believe that Christian Values help to shape and support our children to fulfil their full potential and empower them to make informed choices, flourish socially and prepare them for becoming a confident, respectful and fulfilled member of society. We believe that our Christian Values highlight how Christ is our role model and that no matter what we go through we will always have friendship, peace and respect.
Peace ~ The Hebrew term for peace, ‘shalom’, has a deep and complex meaning, encompassing much more than simply the absence of hostility or war. Shalom includes ideas of healing and health, wholeness and well-being. It means harmony, stability and security within a community. It refers to relationships based on truth and righteousness, where people flourish because they are nurtured.
‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid'. (John 14:27)
Respect ~ People need to respect each other, respect the world they live in and also respect themselves. It is important that they treat others the same way they would like to be treated.
'Be devoted to one another. Honour one another above yourselves.' (Romans 12:10)
Friendship ~ Trust, feeling comfortable in each other's company, being able to share joys, sorrows, are all features of friendship and these are things of immense value. True friendship enables each person to grow and ensures that the unique individuality of each person is recognised.' (Christian Values for Schools).
'If one falls down, a friend can lift him up.' (Ecclesiastes 4:10)
Belonging To Our Church Community
St Luke and All Saints Church Darrington
At Darrington CE Primary, we regularly visit St Luke and All Saints Church, Darrington, which is positioned next to the school. We hold many celebrations throughout the year in Church such as our Christmas Carol Concert, Harvest and Easter service. We also visit the Church when teaching elements of Christianity in RE, for example, about Baptism and signs and symbols.
The church itself is open every day for visitors to pray, or to sit quietly and enjoy the sacred space. The churchyard is also a beautiful place to visit and enjoy.
The church is a community of people of all ages who enjoy coming together to worship, encourage and support one another, growing in faith and serving the community.
- There is a service of worship at 10:45am every Sunday. Anyone of any age is welcome and coffee and biscuits are served after the service, when everyone is invited to stay for a drink and a chat.
- On the third Sunday of each month, the 9.30am service is a family service, and is well attended by families from the school.
- There is also a service of worship on Thursday mornings at 10:30am.

Spiritual Development
We believe that Spiritual Development is a vital part to our children's development.
How we aim to develop a strong sense of spirituality
1. Have regular time in the day for quiet and reflection. This might be listening to a story, lighting a candle in collective worship, going for a walk
2. Provide many opportunities for creativity and using the imagination
3. Valuing play opportunities
4. Singing often, especially with others.
5. Ensuring invitational opportunities for prayer. This can take many forms, but should include being thankful, saying sorry.
6. Provide frequent opportunities for children to explore, express and share feelings.
7. Constantly reaffirm the importance of relationships. How we talk to and relate with each other is fundamental.
8. Provide opportunities to express awe and wonder, appreciate beauty in all its forms, and appreciate the connections and unity in the world
9. Encourage each other to admit mistakes and to say sorry. Recognising and owning up to faults is an important healing and redemptive process.
10. Encourage children to show kindness, caring and compassion, and to express these in practical ways. (eg: how we treat each other every day; charitable works; looking after pets)
11. Explore the ‘Big Questions’ – particularly through our RE programme
12. Read often to children, and give them opportunities to discuss and reflect. This includes both secular and religious texts, in particular the Bible
Collective Worship
As a Church school, Collective Worship is an important and special time during which we can share in celebrating God's love and learning more about the Christian faith. It is a place that pupils and staff feel a sense of community and an expression of our school's Christian vision. Through stories, songs and prayer, we aim to help the children to develop their spirituality, as well as becoming more understanding and tolerant of the beliefs of others. Worship is inclusive, in that pupils and staff can access relevant to faith or background, as well as no faith background.
Invitational: Collective Worship is invitational and provides an opportunity for pupils and staff to pray if they wish.
We believe that the Christian values we promote through collective worship are important for all of our pupils to learn as 'values for life'. We encourage the involvement of all pupils so that their sense of belonging as a member of our school community can be strengthened.
Our Worship Wonderers are involved in leading and supporting daily worship.
There are many opportunities for parents, family and friends to join the school in Collective Worship. We also take part in worship in our special whole school and class led services at school and in Church such as Christmas, Harvest, Mothering Sunday and Easter.
