School Standards and Performance
Darrington CE Primary School is celebrating a year of good results in 2022:
We are very proud of all our pupils’ achievements.
Reception
Assessment is ongoing through teacher observation of children’s learning and development as they take part in everyday activities and planned observations. On leaving Reception, a child is considered to have a ‘good level of development’ if they have achieved at least the expected level in the Early Learning Goals in all aspects of Personal Social Emotional, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy and Mathematics.
2018: 73% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’. (National average 71%)
2019: 82% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’.
2022: 75% of children achieved a ‘Good Level of Development’. (Early National 65%)
Year 1
The National Phonics Screening Check was introduced in 2012. It is a short statutory assessment to ensure children are making sufficient progress in the phonic skills to read words and are on track to become fluent readers.
2018: 87% of children passed the phonic screening check. (National average 81%)
2019: 93% of children passed the phonic screening check.
2022: 100% of children passed the phonic screening check. (National 75%)
Year 2
In state primary schools in England, children are tested at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2). Teachers make a judgment using the test scores alongside other evidence, such as the shown by pupils in their classwork.

Year 6
Children in Year 6 take their tests on set dates in May. Results are then submitted to the local authority and to parents by the summer term. The tests the children undertake are Reading, Spelling Punctuation and Grammar (SPaG) and mathematics. The children’s writing judgements are based upon teacher assessment of work produced in class.
